One Hour of Exercise Weekly May Reduce Depression Risk
If you only have time to attend one of my classes each week there is still good news for you! We know that yoga and other mind body classes help reduce stress levels, increase flexibility and they promote better sleep in general. Here is another encouraging report on getting any type of exercise even if you can only fit in that one hour each week to attend a class. Samuel Harvey, PhD, associate professor at the School of Psychiatry at the University of New South Wales in Sydney Australia is a leader of an analysis of a Norwegian survey of nearly 34,000 adults. His survey was published in the American Journal of Psychiatry. In his analysis, people who do one hour of weekly exercise of any type at any intensity level have a 44% lower risk of developing depression over a decade compared with people who not exercise at all. Any type of physical activity had the same benefit!
