Washing Off Pesticides On Your Produce

We all should be concerned about pesticides in our food supply. I know it is expensive and difficult to eat all organic produce. Organic farmers do use pesticides too, they just use safer products. If you can purchase organic produce when it comes to the dirty dozen that is one step in the right direction. The dirty dozen is the top 12 foods that contain the highest amount pesticide residue even after they are washed thoroughly. The Food Revolution Network has a great article explaining many inexpensive ways to wash your produce well. I tend to use the baking soda approach. I buy a large inexpensive bag of baking soda from Costco that lasts for a very long time.

 

For washing veggies

  • Fill a large bowl with water.
  • Then add a teaspoon of baking soda.
  • Add the veggies.
  • Soak for a minute or two.
  • Scrub with a brush.
  • And finally, rinse off the veggies.
