The Dirty Dozen & The Clean Fifteen

Summer is the perfect time of year to start eating more produce! Fruits and vegetables are in abundance right now. Juicy peaches and plums are such a perfect healthy dessert. When you are shopping for produce try to remember the dirty dozen and the clean fifteen to avoid exposure to pesticides.

The dirty dozen are foods that still have high levels of pesticide residue even after they are washed well. I try to buy only organic with the following 12 foods.

The Dirty Dozen

  1. Strawberries
  2. Spinach
  3. Nectarines
  4. Apples
  5. Peaches
  6. Celery
  7. Grapes
  8. Pears
  9. Cherries
  10. Tomatoes

  12. Potatoes

The clean fifteen are foods that after they are washed have low pesticide residue and are probably where you can save your money buying regular produce. If you need to save money on your grocery bills save your organic purchases for items on the dirty dozen list.
